Greatstone to Folkestone
(Our overall day number 2 - Part of The KC3 ECP Leg 25 - Camber to Folkestone)Greatstone to Folkestone
9th October 2021 | Miles 15.7 | Elevation gain 108ft
A 15.7 mile walk from Greatstone to Folkestone, mostly along the sea wall and the promenade, and passing through Littlestone, St Mary’s Bay, Dymchurch, Hythe (where there is a short detour inland, again to avoid the MoD ranges), Sandgate and finally Folkestone.
Getting there and back
From our accommodation in Rye, it was another early start for the long hour’s drive to Folkestone, which was quite busy even on a Sunday morning. We parked in the Tram Road car park (it might be possible to park closer to the sea front - eg Folkstone Beach car park, but there was significant construction underway at the time of our visit). It was a ten minute stroll to the central bus station where we caught the 102 bus to Littlestone – a 30 minute journey. Some of the 102s go onto Rye, via Greatstone Beach car park - yesterday's end point and therefore today's start point - but our timing meant we had to hop off at Littlestone, leaving us a 20 minute, one mile, walk south to get to our start point. This seemed fun and no problem at the time, but we felt a bit differently about the extra distance by the time we walked back into Folkestone 15 and a bit miles later!.
Weather conditions
Mostly sunny, a lovely Saturday by the sea. Around 18 degrees, with a little wind in our face as we approached Folkestone
Walking difficulty
Easy - flat and most of this section is on promenade. However it was a busy sunny Saturday in October, this section is long, and the prom was busy with people, which made this less fun than it could have been!
