(Our overall day number 15 - Part of The KC3 ECP Leg 19 - Lee-on-the-Solent to Southsea, Portsmouth)Lee-On-The-Solent to Gosport Ferry
31st August 2022 | Miles 7.7 | Elevation gain 114ft
A 7.7 mile walk from Hillhead Beach at Lee-on-the-Solent to the Gosport Ferry. The path initially follows the beach along the shore of the Solent, with fabulous views across to the Isle of Wight. There is a detour inland to circumnavigate the Browndown military training area, then back to the shore of Stokes Bay to follow the path to the Gilkicker Fort and the turn northeast towards Gosport. The walk finishes at the Gosport Ferry.
Getting there and back
We drove from home on the day of this walk and parked at the Walpole Park car park. It’s two minutes to the Police Station Bus Stop W, to pick up the X5 Solent Rangers bus towards Southampton - this runs up Marine Drive and the Drake Road bus stop is very close to the start of the leg.
For a one day walk by public transport, South Western Railway trains run from London Waterloo to Fareham, from where the X5 Solent rangers bus runs to the start point at Lee-on-the-Solent.
Weather conditions
Sunny and warm, high of 24 degrees, with a nice sea breeze to keep us cool, especially once we’d rounded the point and were heading northeast.
Walking difficulty
Easy - flat and mostly promenade or roads
