Kingswear to Brixham

6th October 2023 | Miles 10.9 | Elevation gain 3079ft

An 11 mile walk along some spectacular coastline, on a clear sunny day. But with some serious ups and downs right from the start at the steps leaving the ferry at Kingswear! Refreshment opportunities are few and far between once you've left Kingswear - but the National Trust property at Coleton Fishacre would be worth a visit - there is a back entrance right off the coast path. From there, the path rounds Scabbacombe Head and climbs up to Southdown Cliff. From Sharkham Point, Brixham starts to appear, and the Guard House Cafe on Berry Head, just over a mile from the end, was a very welcome stopping point.
Getting there and back
We caught the 12 Bus from The Strand at Torquay, a 16 minute trip to Paignton Bus Station, to change onto the 120 bus which took us to Kingswear 22 minutes. OK we have a confession, the 120 bus didn't show at Paignton, so we shared a cab to Kingswear with a fellow stranded walker named Deborah. It's not far - £20 in a local cab from the taxi stand round the corner from the bus station.
Weather conditions
Lovely sunny day and very warm for October - what a treat!
Walking difficulty
Difficult - over 3,000ft of elevation with steep ups and downs, and quite remote. The walking gets a little bit easier after Southdown Cliff.

Looks like it's going to be tough - the climb up above Long Sands
Best not eat - though it does look appetising!
