19th February 2026 11.8 miles 159ft elevation gain
Just over 11 miles along the south coast and then up the east side of Hayling Island. Starting along the beach at South Hayling, along the promenade, round the Sandy Point Nature Reserve, through some suburban areas of South Hayling, before heading north, mostly on road, to reach North Hayling and then back to Langstone Bridge.
Ever Again?
We rated this lower than day 1, because, while the walk starts off along the seafront, once you're round the point, there's a lot of road walking, and a surprising number of cars.

Getting there and back
We parked on the island side of the bridge (near the Hayling Billy trail on the right and a few yards after you exit the bridge) and walked back to the Ship Inn to catch the bus down to South Hayling to start the walk. Although the OS map says there is parking at the Ship Inn, it's full of signs warning against any non-patron parking (we couldn't pop in and ask to leave the car due to the timing of our arrival) - the car park the other side of the bridge is free and there's a coffee van as well.
Weather conditions
Cold and a bit damp - though we mostly avoided the rain. Wet conditions underfoot with some flooded areas.
Walking difficulty
Easy, but a bit tedious at times on the roads. A surprising number of cars, causing ducking to the verges.
