St Leonards to Winchelsea Beach

26th June 2023 | Miles 10.3 | Elevation gain 1236ft

A 10.3 mile walk, initially along the prom for a mile or two into Hastings, as far as the Old Town where there is a sharp ascent to the cliff tops. For four miles, the path runs through the Hastings Country Park, with wild a spectacular coastline, and of course several steep ascents and descents to traverse wooded valleys. The path descends into Fairlight, and then rejoins the coast at the appropriately named Cliff End. From there it was two miles along the sea wall to reach Winchelsea Beach.
Getting there and back
We walked from our accommodation in St Leonards, and then, from the bus stop outside the Winchelsea Beach Holiday Park, we caught the 101 bus back to Hastings. We could have jumped on the 99 bus from Hastings train station to St Leonards, but in the event we strolled the mile along the front.
Weather conditions
Not quite as warm as the previous day, with some overcast weather, but hot enough to make the upping and downing feel hard work!
Walking difficulty
Moderate - four big ups and downs between Hastings and Fairlight, and in warm weather as well
