Hythe Ferry to Hamble-le-Rice

23rd February 2024 | Miles 7.2 | Elevation gain 150ft

A 7.2 mile walk, initially two miles of urban and road based progress passing through Southampton and across the Itchen Bridge, and a section through Woolston, before joining the coast to the south and then along the coastline passing Weston and then through Netley, and the Royal Victoria Country Park. The final section passes by the oil terminal on the coast side and then comes into Hamble via the (flooded!) Hamble Common
Getting there and back
We walked from our accommodation in Southampton and at the end of the day caught the number 15 bus from the village square in Hamble for the 35 minute ride back to Southampton.
Weather conditions
A couple of light showers but much drier than the previous day - it remained very wet underfoot, and Hamble Common in particular was flooded and pretty much impassable - we were forced to take a little detour.
Walking difficulty
Easy - flat and well marked - apart from the underwater section on Hamble Common!
