How we approached this leg
We walked this over three days. On day one we caught the ferry from Southampton to Hythe and then the bus to Calshot, walked back to the ferry and cross back to Southampton. On day 2 we walked from the ferry to Hambel, and caught the bus back to Southampton. On day 3 we drove to Lee-on-the-Solent and then took the bus back to Warsash.
Where we stayed
In the heart of Southampton, on Oxford Street. Lots of eateries and bars nearby. We also visited the Titanic Museum, which was worth the effort.

Places to stop
HarBar on 6th, Southampton Marina
Posh drinks with views, pre-dinner on the first evening
The Jetty, Southampton Marina
Upmarket sea food restaurant, on the water with views of the marina
Lord Nelson, Hythe
We stopped in for a beer while waiting for the ferry at the end of day 1 - we were all wet and muddy, including the dog, and they were very welcoming
Dancing Man Brewery
Craft beer and decent food. We came for pre-dinner drinks on our second evening and had such a good time that we stayed for dinner
Pirate Pasties, Hamble
We reached Hamble to finish our day 2 walk around lunchtime, the sun came out, and so we got pasties from here and sat on the front watching the boats
The Grapes, Oxford Street, Southampton
Pre-dinner pint on our third evening - we'd been to the Titanic exhibition at the Sea City Museum earlier in the afternoon and heard the story of the Slade brothers who had a few drinks at The Grapes before heading to work as crew on the Titanic, but narrowly missed the departure - thereby potentially saving their lives. We decided it was a must visit!
Porters Steak House, Southampton
Venue for dinner on our final evening. The fillet was tough, the ribeye was lovely.
