Scarborough to Robin Hood's Bay

25th June 2024 | Miles 16.1 | Elevation gain 2593ft

A long day, and in the heat as well - 16 miles, initially flat around the castle to reach North Sands, then up and along initially open cliff tops with great views, but then several miles on the approach to Ravenscar which are more enclosed behind hedgerows with limited views of the sea, while still steadily climbing. It was a welcome relief to reach Ravenscar, stop for refreshments and then descend for the final three miles to Robin Hood's Bay. There is a final little lung busting stretch to ascend back to the car park at Bank Top!
Getting there and back
We parked our car at the Bank Top car park in Robin Hood's Bay and then caught the x93 MAX bus from the Thorpe Road bus stop to Scarborough Railway Station. From there it's a ten minute walk down to the Ferris wheel to pick up the path from the day before.
Weather conditions
Warm - slightly overcast and humid
Walking difficulty
Moderate - a lot of elevation but nothing too steep - the length of the walk and the heat at the time made this one feel 'difficult' rather than moderate!

Ice creams at Ravenscar - the highest point of the walk at 637ft, we arrived here in the nick of time to put a stop to any mutinous thoughts
From Ravenscar, it's pretty much downhill all the way to Robin Hood's Bay

Robin Hood's Bay
Getting there
Not what we wanted to see - an unexpected extra half mile, and involving an up and a down 😖
Are we nearly there?
