Bridgwater to Steart

26th October 2024 | Miles 11.4 | Elevation gain 60ft

Just over 11 miles winding north along the west bank of the River Parrett, leaving behind the urban Bridgwater for a peaceful walk up to the coast
Getting there and back
There's no public transport between Bridgewater and the Steart Peninsula, so we positioned two cars either end - walking from Linham Road in Bridgwater to the Wall Common car park on the Steart Peninsula
Weather conditions
A great day for walking, the sun was out and the temperature reached 18 degrees - shorts and t-shirt weather at the end of October!
Walking difficulty
Easy - pretty much totally flat, but be aware this is a remote area with very limited public transport and therefore bail out options are few and far between

The story of our day in photos

Only just begun so not sure why we're looking so pleased with ourselves here
Setting off - just after the A39 bridge over the River Parrett
Heading up the western bank of the River Parrett

View across to Down End
Lunch stop - around 5 miles from the start
Not much happens on the River Parrett, so this was an exciting moment!
Approaching Combwich - drop off point for much of the heavy equipment needed for building Hinkley C
These strange blue things followed us around - we saw them again the following day being delivered to Hinkley
River Parrett widening out as we approach the coast
Arriving at Steart to finish the walk
