Steart Peninsula to Kilve Beach

27th October 2024 | Miles 9.9 | Elevation gain 506ft

Just under 10 miles along the north Somerset coast, mostly feeling remote, but with Hinkley Point power station plonked in the middle of the walk!
Getting there and back
There is no public transport on this stretch so we parked at Wall Common car park on the Steart Peninsula and walked to Kilve Beach where we had left the other car
Weather conditions
Another great day - the sun came out. A little cooler than the previous day - perfect walking conditions
Walking difficulty
Easy - flat at the start - then once you reach the power station, the diversion has some slight inclines, and then the path along the coast is also up and down a bit - nothing serious, maximum elevation 134ft.

Looking north towards Brean Down
Approach Hinkley - the path diverts inland here while the construction is underway
Eventually worked out that these are testing the air quality near Hinkley, presumably for radiation
The strange blue things arrive at Hinkley Point - we saw these being landed at Combwich a day earlier
Construction of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station
Lunch stop - looking south towards the Quantock Hills - right outside the Hinkley fence, so the view in the other direction is quite different!
... as this picture shows!
Looking towards Minehead and Exmoor
Pretty sure this security guard showed up to just check us out as we walked down the western side of Hinkley to rejoin the coast
Back at the coast looking over Bridgwater Bay
Looking back at the landing stage outside Hinkley - think lighter equipment can come in via this, heavy gear needs to come to Combwich and then by road from there
Heading away from Hinkley
Goose delay - on the road back to Watchet
