Hunstanton to King's Lynn

4th April 2025 | Miles 17.3 | Elevation gain 101ft

A 17.3 mile walk, initially along the Hunstanton promenade and then on the beach (unless a very high tide). After seven miles, the beach gives way to marsh, and the path follows the flood bank through RSPB Snettisham, and then along miles of flood bank to eventually reach King's Lynn
Getting there and back
We caught the 34 bus early on a Friday morning from the Transport Interchange at King's Lynn up to the Bus Station at Hunstanton
Weather conditions
Glorious spring sunshine, with a refreshing north-easterly wind to keep us cool. Underfoot conditions were dry - there had been little rain for a few weeks.
Walking difficulty
Easy - very flat, most of the walking is on the flood bank - the path was clear but could be a little more overgrown later in the spring / early summer. No easy bail out points south of Snettisham, so be prepared for a long walk.

The story of our day in photos

Friday morning stroll along Hunstanton's promenade - had been hoping for a coffee, but nothing much was open at 9am
The only open spot for a sausage sandwich - on the way out of Hunstanton

South of Snettisham, the beach becomes mud - Peter Black Sand
Some easy walking for a bit, on the flood defences, south of Snettisham
More mud
Exiting RSPB Snettisham - still a long walk to King's Lynn!
No way to bail out for 9 miles once you've left RSPB Snettisham!
Flood bank - to become a common theme over the next day or so!
Flat for miles!
King's Lynn coming into view - but deceptively far to go
Very close to King's Lynn - just three more miles to go!
