King's Lynn to Sutton Bridge

5th April 2025 | Miles 15.7 | Elevation gain 95ft

Just under sixteen miles from King's Lynn to Sutton Bridge, initially down to Free Bridge, across, then back up the western bank of the River Great Ouse to reach the southern shores of The Wash around the five mile mark. Then along the flood bank for another seven miles before turning inland to follow the River Nene for three miles into Sutton Bridge. Just us and a few cows!
Getting there and back
We walked from our accommodation in King's Lynn, and then caught the 505 Interconnect bus back from Sutton Bridge at the end of the day
Weather conditions
Sunny with a chilly wind that was particularly cold on the top of the flood bank
Walking difficulty
Flat and easy - BUT a long walk, no realistic way to break it up into shorter stretches, and no refreshments on the route - take your own snacks and sandwiches!

Getting closer to The Wash
We didn't see many people, but these farmers seemed to be collecting rubbish from the marshes on the seaward side of the flood bank
Seven miles of flood bank - marsh on the right, farmland on the left!

Norfolk / Lincolnshire border - at this point, we'd completed the entire Norfolk coastline, all 112.5 miles from Suffolk to here!
