This is the first section of coast path on the northern side of the Thames. We walked for 19 miles along the northern shoreline of the Thames Estuary - industrial and interesting start at Tilbury Docks, the path follows the coast for around 6 miles, before an inland section around Mucking Marshes and then London Gateway Port. From the Coryton Refinery, the path winds north for the final six miles through the Fobbing Marshes and the Vange Marshes up to Pitsea. This final section is mostly sea wall walking and quite uneven terrain at times, making it surprisingly tough particularly at the end of a long day.
How we approached this leg
We're doing this section as a series of one day walks, parking one end and using the train
Where we stayed
We had no overnight stays on this leg
