Aust to Sand Bay
KC3 ECP Leg Number 1a
16th August 2025 – 16th August 2025
35.0 official miles
31.6 miles walked
Thirty-five miles from the Old Severn Bridge, through to Sand Bay, just north of Weston-super-Mare. It's a walk of contrasts, shifting from industrial heritage at the off and then coastline mostly overlooking the Severn Estuary.
Day by day
How we approached this leg
First three days of a 35 mile walk from Aust to Sand Bay. We'd planned to complete the full stretch in one go but in August 2025 a poorly dog meant we had to restrict our distance, and then in May 2026, we had to abandon the final few miles into Sand Bay because the coast path is still not open.
This leg is best done over three days -Aust (or Chepstow) to Avonmouth, day 2 to Clevedon, then day 3 Clevedon to Sand Bay, or even walk on into Weston-super-Mare (we had already walked the stretch from Sand Bay to Weston in 2022)
Where we stayed
Bristol is a brilliant hub for this walk, and (except Aust) with both train and bus transport options to and from various places along the route to Bristol
