This 24 mile walk is the second part of official ECP Leg 22. We walked from Bognor Regis, along the beach, turning inland for a bit at Littlehampton to cross the river Arun, then onwards to Worthing, Lancing and finally Shoreham-by-Sea. The final part of the walk doubles back round the peninsula at Shoreham Harbour to end at Swing Bridge which is the crossing into the main part of Shoreham. This joined us up to the start of Leg 23, already completed in July 2022, which means we have completed a continuous stretch of 58 miles from Bognor Regis to Eastbourne.
Day by day

How we approached this leg
It was a last minute decision to walk this stretch of the path in mid-January, based on the weather forecast for sunny, relatively calm conditions and crisp icy temperatures meaning less mud! We based ourselves in East Worthing, broadly in the middle of the stretch, with easy access to public transport. We took a relatively leisurely three days to complete the 24 miles, allowing for the time of year and the short days.
On day 1, we walked from Bognor Regis to the station at Littlehampton. On day 2 we walked from Littlehampton to our accommodation in Worthing - this also allowed for a pleasant Friday afternoon completing the final mile along the front through Worthing via some refreshment stops! On day 3 we walked the final short stretch to Shoreham-by-Sea.
This leg could be completed in two longer days - the best way to do this would be extending day 1 to finish in West Worthing - c 14 mile walk, and then day 2 from West Worthing to Shoreham-by-Sea c 10 miles.
Where we stayed
